Costs of Membership
Being a member of Rotary involves a commitment, both in terms of time and some cost:
- Each club has an annual fee, generally payable in two half-yearly instalments. The Rotary Club of Belconnen attempts to keep this fee as low as possible. A fee is necessary for operation of the Club because all funds raised go towards community projects.
- There is also a personal involvement "cost" - time and effort.
There is an expectation that you will attend at least 60% of club meetings each half year. The Rotary Club of Belconnen meets each Wednesday evening at the Southern Cross Club in Jamison, with occasional exceptions. This is a dinner meeting where the cost of the two course meal is at club prices.
Each member is assigned to one of the club's various committees and it is expected that members will participate actively in their committee. Committees meet typically once per month for an hour or so.
Finally, there is the Belconnen Trash and Treasure Market at the Jamison Centre carpark, held every Sunday except Christmas Day. This market is the primary source of charitable income for the Rotary Club of Belconnen, which in turn provides the opportunity for every committee to provide a variety of support to worthwhile causes, whether local, national or international. However the bulk of funds raised are returned within the local community. All members are rostered to assist in one way or another with the operation of this market.
We expect all of our members to help us raise funds by participation in running the Trash and Treasure Market. We also expect members to be involved in their committee and as circumstances permit to take part in the social activities of the club. Should you wish to attend one of our club's meetings or seek further information, please contact the Membership Officer at Membership.
