Youth Exchange

District 9710 Youth Exchange

Rotary Youth Exchange

The Rotary Youth Exchange Program (YEP) is an International exchange for young people between the ages of 15 – 17. The exchange is for a 12 month period during which time the student is hosted by 3 or 4 families therefore experiencing different lifestyles.

Who can go?

Rotary Youth Exchange students preferably should not have turned 18 at time of departure from Australia (January). Applicants should have above average academic skills and an outgoing and pleasant personality to fit them for the role as an Ambassador for Australia and Rotary. They must be capable of adjusting to new and strange conditions. Sons and daughters of Rotarians ARE eligible for Youth Exchange, but receive no special preference in selection. All applicants are selected solely on merit.

What is the aim?

Spending time abroad as a Rotary Exchange Student is a great opportunity for students to experience a new culture, a new language, to be an ambassador for Rotary & Australia and to build lifelong friendships.

How much does it cost?

Parents are required to cover the cost established and invoiced by the RYEP Committee ($ 7,500.00), which covers the travel to and from the host country, Rotary Uniform, Business Cards, Badges, Insurance and Briefings. The District organises all above including a temporary life insurance policy and adequate medical insurances to cover the student for the period of his/her stay abroad. Parents will provide clothing for the student while overseas, and will also provide an emergency fund of $500 which can be drawn on with the consent of the student's counsellor or host parents.

Critical dates:

March: Applications close
May: Club and District Interviews
June: Selection
July & Nov: Training commences & continues
January: Departure of Out-bound Students
